タイのビジネスリーダー40人がOBPアカデミアを視察!

微笑みの国タイから中小企業者協会の会長さんをはじめ40人の経営者たちがOBPアカデミアのビジネスモデルについて勉強しに来られました!!
5月のある日。
OBPアカデミアへの問い合わせメールに1通の英文のお手紙が。
それはタイのサラユト・レクプリポル博士からのお問い合わせ。
タイの中小企業者協会の日本研修ツアーの一環として、OBPアカデミアを訪ねてそのビジネスモデルについて勉強したい、というお申込みでした。

いやー、びっくりしました。
わがOBPアカデミアはまだ開業して半年。そんな私たちに注目している人がもう海外にいたなんて。
これはなにかのまちがいか?

そこでサラユトさんに、「なんでうちに興味を??」とお返事したところ、
「サード・プレイスという概念を核にビジネスモデルを作っているのがたいへん興味深くて・・。」
というレスをいただき、まちがいなくうちのことやわ~と、再度びっくり。
これは責任重大。

そしてほんとうにやってきました。
タイ中小企業者協会の精鋭40人。

それから鍋島が英語でプレゼン。
質疑応答では、「初期費用は?」「いまの売り上げは?」と単刀直入なご質問が飛び交いました。
さすが、タイをリードする経営者たち。

これからの更なる連携を約束して、お帰りになりました。

■Simple Facts about OBP Academia

•       Open, October 15th, 2015 (has been operating for 9 months).

•       Basic service: Give members privileges to use the library and lounge as their third place.

•       Price: Full membership, 9,000yen per month.

•       Space: 600m2 in total. Library 200m2, Lounge 100m2, Seminar room 150 m2, Workroom 1 to 3 30m2 each.

•       Two coffee machine. One juice server. One aqua server. One ice dispenser.

•       Copy machine. Free Wifi access.

Ø  Membership: 300 (July 23rd, 2016)

Ø  20 classes/month open, participants total 500. (June, 2016)

Ø  Marketing methodology: Chiefly by web plus direct marketing to surrounding companies.

 

■Basic Concept : The Third Place

•       Sociological term “the third place” has been used to explain peoples needs to secure a place beside home and workplace.
 Ray Oldenburg(1985): The Great Good Place: Cafes, Coffee Shops, Bookstores, Bars, Hair Salons, and Other Hangouts at the Heart of a Community

•       The First Place=Home

•       The Second Place=Workplace

•       The Third Place=Hangouts at the heart of the community

•       Many business projects around the world refers to the notion “the third place.”  One of the most famous company which does that is Starbucks.


■What we learned from Starbucks and others.

•       We agree with Starbucks that quality coffee and relaxing atmosphere is essential to make the third place a business.

•       Starbucks knows that people comes to their place not just for coffee. They design their place to look like the third place to maximize their sales of coffee.

•       Some bookstores also provides nice seats and coffee to encourage the customers hangout. Books are another key factor of the third place.

•       Real Estate developers also started to provide café lounge service in their business buildings to encourage people to hangout in their buildings and develop business network. Networking is another key factor of the third place.

•       All of these business models have back end products behind their “hangout” function. Why don’t we sell the third place itself? How?

 

■ What actually do you want to do at Starbucks?

■What service should we provide to each needs?

•       Read: We will have a library and provide selected books. Mass book presence creates atmosphere toward learning.

•       Work: We equip ourselves with PC friendly functions to make people feel like they are in their own office.

•       Study: We will provide quiet environment and luxurious seats for people who want to concentrate.

•       Chat: We encourage members to bring in others to share our place as their hangouts. We provide lounge allowing people to chat and eat. We do networking to connect our clients to broader world.

•       Learn: We provide seminars to fulfill our clients’ curiosity  and stimulate their ambitions.

•       Relax: We provide clean, healthy environment and warm atmosphere plus quiet room.

 

■ If you become a member of OBP Academia…

•       You don’t need to buy a cup of coffee just to secure a seat.

•       You can read books as long as we are open. Enjoy books selected by our book sommelier in the library.

•       You can work on your laptop as long as we are open with free wifi and multiple electricity access.

•       You can even bring McDonald’s hamburger to eat here.

•       You can bring your friend, customer, partner for free.

•       You have a great discount for a meeting room rent.

•       Were open 7 to 11, 365 days a year.

•       You can enjoy a sight of Osaka castle and the beautiful park every day.

•       If you are a heavy Starbucks user, you can have better seat in cheaper price here.

•       Local workers searching for hideouts, hangouts.

•       Students and workers who need place to study.

•       Nomad workers searching for shared office.

•       Retired workers searching for hangouts.

•       Entrepreneurs searching for a place to start a new business.

•       Professionals searching for co-working space to start projects.

 

■Our mission: Community development

•       OBP is a 26ha business area consisted of several skyscrapers, 35,000 workers and 350 companies.

•       The area was an arm factory during the WW2 and destroyed by American bombing. Ruin of the arm factory was changed into a modern business area in 1985.

•       Despite the area’s population size, it could not develop active communities of workers and companies till now.

•       OBP Academia is expected to serve as community developer of the area. We are supported by people who care about community development in this area.
